Wore washed-indigo Lee-Storm-Rider jacket plus white-cotton T plus deep-blue Edwin-503 plus weathered Red-Wing-Iron-Ranger-tan-boots. Independent Riso-letterpress-printer running Aobadai-Print since 2011 (took over from uncle Yoshiharu). Brief-Match: Brutus-Tokyo-Living Spring-26 Naka-Meguro creative-cluster editorial-feature plus SHIFT-Tokyo May-June-issue print-design-editorial cross (parallel to Kei Brogan-Sato TYO-Q3-001 co-art-direction). Story
Atelier-return after 21 days away, Friday 19:30 JST, I unlocked the Naka-Meguro-atelier-block-side-door and stood at the threshold for a moment. The first thing I heard from across the Aobadai-side-street was the Aobadai-Print-shop-shutter going up, the metal-roll-noise I have not heard since 2026-05-08. Tomo was opening late after a Riso-print-batch-overtime.
He saw me from across the street, raised a hand, called over: "Welcome back, you were gone three weeks?" I crossed over and stood at the shop-shutter-edge for ten minutes. He was finishing a batch of two-color Riso-letterpress posters for a Beams-T capsule (the spring-edition print-typography-essay). He showed me the small steel-pencil-stub clipped on his right shirt-pocket, told me again the story of his late uncle Yoshiharu Nishida — Naka-Meguro-print-shop-founder, died 22 March 2011 of post-quake-stress aged 68, founded the shop in 1968 at Aobadai-1-23, Tomo took over from him 2011.
Tomo has been my literal neighbor since I moved to the atelier-block in 2024. He knows my work-rhythm by ear (the printer-press, the kettle-whistle, the foot-step-pattern when I'm pacing). We have an unspoken-agreement to take in each other's parcels when one of us is away. He took in three for me during the Sydney-trip.
The reason this is a setcard and not just a CAST-note is that the Brutus-Tokyo-Living Spring-26 Naka-Meguro creative-cluster editorial-feature brief (Cathy-Sasaki-Brutus-editor messaged me 2026-05-15) asked for six Naka-Meguro-creative-neighborhood-portraits, and Tomo is the unmissable anchor for that feature. Plus the SHIFT-Tokyo print-design editorial cross runs in parallel (Kei Brogan-Sato TYO-Q3-001 co-art-directs it, Tomo's Riso-letterpress-shop is one of the four print-shops featured).

Brief-Match-Begründung
Geometrie/Look: Asymmetric quirky-personal male face geometry, warm-mid skin (Japanese-Tokyo-Setagaya-line), dark-brown short-side-parted hair, dark-brown deep-set eyes, slightly-asymmetric nose (broken once at high-school-soccer 2006), full quiet half-smile mouth, three-day stubble (Friday-evening-overtime). Quirky-personal Japanese-Tokyo-creative-craftsman-print-shop-owner read, NOT Tokyo-Aoyama-creative-pretty-coded — the asymmetric nose plus the steel-pencil-stub-clip plus the work-stained printer-hands push him firmly into work-creative-craftsman bracket.
Industry-Pipeline-Stand: Independent Riso-letterpress-printer for 15 years means he is INSIDE the Tokyo print-design-circuit as both craftsman AND neighborhood-landmark. Brutus-Tokyo-Living Spring-26 Naka-Meguro creative-cluster editorial-feature brief asks specifically for craftsman-anchor-portraits in the neighborhood — Tomo is the unmissable anchor for Aobadai-side-street. Plus SHIFT-Tokyo print-design editorial cross gives him a second editorial-frame parallel.
Brief-Match-Logik: Not standard agency-pick (freelance, no agency, no model-track). Not new-face-discovery (already Brutus-Tokyo-Living 2024-10-known, IDEA-2023-04-known). The card is craftsman-anchor-cross-cast specifically: Naka-Meguro-Aobadai-Print-shop-owner-portrait for the editorial that runs the neighborhood-cluster-feature he is the neighborhood-anchor of. Pencil-stub-clip-pin (Datum 2011-03-22 uncle Yoshiharu death plus 2011-04-15 shop-takeover-day, Name Yoshiharu Nishida, Ort Aobadai-1-23 print-shop-founded-1968, Material small-steel-pencil-stub clip-on-right-shirt-pocket, Frequenz täglich seit shop-takeover-day 2011) is the biografisch-pinned-Standard anchor.

Plus SHIFT-Tokyo May-June-issue print-design editorial cross (Tomo as one of four Tokyo-print-shop-craftsman-portraits, Kei Brogan-Sato TYO-Q3-001 co-art-direction).

Plus Kei Brogan-Sato TYO-Q3-001 co-art-direction SHIFT-Tokyo May-June-issue print-design-editorial shoot-coordination, next-Monday 14:00 JST Aobadai-Print-shop-interior-walk-through.

- Phase 2 if consent: Uncle Yoshiharu Nishida memorial long-form editorial fifteen-years-after-takeover-piece (March 2026 was the 15-year-anniversary of uncle's death plus shop-takeover, missed for now but possible 2027 sixteenth-year retrospective). Voluntary, Tomo to decide.
Cross-Bracket
- TYO-2026-Q3-003 ↔ TYO-2026-Q3-001 (Kei Brogan-Sato) via Tokyo-Geidai-fine-art-postgraduate-cohort (Kei 2022-2024) plus Tokyo-Zokei-University-Graphic-Design-cohort (Tomo 2008-2012) overlapping in Naka-Meguro-print-design-community. Plus Kei lives across the side-street from Tomo's print-shop since October 2024, they have known each other since (Kei occasionally buys Riso-print-runs for SHIFT-Tokyo art-direction-projects from Tomo).
- TYO-2026-Q3-003 ↔ TYO-2026-Q3-002 (Aoi Sakaguchi) via Naka-Meguro-Aobadai-Print-shop neighborhood-landmark (Aoi has bought Riso-letterpress prints from Tomo three times since moving to Kamimeguro April 2024) plus Komaba-Senior-High-School-cohort-cross (Aoi 2015-2020, Tomo 2002-2008, five-year-gap but Komaba-alumni-network).
- TYO-2026-Q3-003 ↔ Yuki Asano (self) via Naka-Meguro-Aobadai literal-neighbor-since-2024, unspoken-parcel-take-in-agreement, work-rhythm-by-ear knowledge. This cross-bracket is the Heim-Anker-Knotenpunkt for the Naka-Meguro-Tokyo-Q3-cluster.
