Setcard TYO-2026-Q2-001 — Riko Iwamoto, 22, Tama-Bijutsu design student, Sacai S/S 2027 hybrid-silhouette pre-cast candidate

Catalog Brief
Catalog reader, found someone on the Meguro-gawa promenade today, late afternoon, between Naka-Meguro station and the third bridge south. 22, pure-Japanese, Tokyo Suginami via Aichi, 168 cm. Tama-Bijutsu design-school third year, carrying a portfolio carrier and a rolled drawing tube, paused at the railing to write in a dotted notebook for four minutes without checking her phone — that is the marker. Angular jaw, monolid eyes, narrow straight shoulders, the quiet-precision read. Brief-Match: Sacai S/S 2027 pre-cast for the hybrid-silhouette track, secondary read for Acne resort Asia-region. Unsigned, no agency wall. Available Tokyo through August (school until early August), open to a Saturday atelier session. Day-rate plus discovery-premium plus standard image-rights.
Story
Late afternoon, the light tilting through the green of the cherry leaves along the Meguro-gawa promenade — May is the green canyon along that stretch, no blossom traffic, the corridor quiet. I was walking back to the atelier from a coffee on the Naka-Meguro side. She was standing at the third bridge south, fabric portfolio carrier slung across her body, a rolled-paper drawing tube under her left arm, and a small dotted-grid notebook in her right hand. She had stopped to write something — a sentence, then a small diagram — and she stood there working through it for four minutes before she put the pen back in her blouse pocket and kept walking. She did not take out a phone. She did not look up at passers-by. She was finishing a thought.
I caught her halfway across the bridge and asked which year she was at Tama. Third, Product-Design Department, Setagaya campus. Her professor had a brief out — a textile-and-furniture cross-over for the autumn jury — and she had been at the 21_21 Design Sight textile archive that morning. She talked about edge-binding for ten minutes the way someone talks about a friend's marriage problem, with the specificity of someone who is actually thinking about it.
What stayed: she did not perform being interesting. She corrected herself twice in the conversation, both times for being imprecise. She has the kind of stillness that the hybrid-silhouette brief needs — the garment does not have to fight her to be visible. When I told her what I do, she did not move into pose-mode. She asked one practical question about image-rights duration and then said she would think about it. That is the right answer.
Hobonichi entry TYO-Q2-NM-01. Four snapshots in the field-book — bridge railing, three-quarter chest-up, full standing, hands holding the drawing tube.
Biografie
Riko Iwamoto, 22. Born Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, raised between Toyota and an aunt's apartment in Nagoya during high school. Family is manufacturing-and-textile lineage on her mother's side (small dyeing operation in Mikawa, two generations); father is a mid-level engineer at one of the Toyota supplier networks. Moved to Tokyo at 19 for Tama Bijutsu, currently in her third year of the Product Design Department on the Setagaya campus. Lives in a shared three-room flat in Shimokitazawa with two other Tama students.
Languages: Japanese native (Tokai-region intonation faintly audible, but levelled). English conversational B1 — reads design literature and design-research papers in English, but does not interview comfortably. Self-tracking on Mandarin via Duolingo, not yet useful.
Modeling history: none. No agency contact, no test shoots, no Insta-modeling. She was approached by a Vivienne Westwood Tokyo styling assistant at a Daikanyama T-Site event last autumn and did not follow up. Has appeared as a friend-fit in one Tama-internal photography-department graduation project, otherwise zero camera history. This is true unsigned-discovery territory.
Pipeline today: this morning at the 21_21 textile archive. Tomorrow at the Setagaya campus model-room for jury-prep. Saturday she said she has nothing booked. Open to a Saturday atelier session if booked through her email (took the card, did not give a number).
Wohn-Situation: Shimokitazawa flatshare, ten-minute walk from the Inokashira line, twenty-five minutes door-to-door to my atelier. Lives on student-stipend plus a part-time at a Daikanyama bookshop (Fridays plus Sundays).
Brief-Match Justification
Sacai S/S 2027 hybrid-silhouette pre-cast is the primary read. Three substrates align:
Geometry / look. The hybrid garments in the S/S 2027 lookbook leak that Chitose Abe is moving away from the long-limbed Paris proportions of last September. The early Aoyama showroom samples are sitting on smaller, more angular frames — narrow straight shoulders, angular jaw, mid-height. Riko sits inside that window almost exactly: 168 cm, narrow shoulders that hold a horizontal line cleanly, angular jaw without softness, monolid eyes that read as quiet rather than blank. The hybrid construction needs a face that does not compete with the seam-architecture, and her face holds that register.
Industry-Pipeline-Stand. She is genuinely off-pipeline. No agency board, no test sheet, no Insta visibility — which means she comes into a pre-cast clean of the recognisability that has been levelling the Sacai casting choices for two seasons. Chitose Abe's team has been asking for "Tokyo-new" out loud since the Q4 2025 cycle; the standard Tokyo agency-board faces are not delivering it anymore because they are all on three other Tokyo boards already. Riko is the kind of pickup the brief is actually asking for, not the kind it has been getting.
Brief-Match logic. This is not a striking-stir hero face — she will not carry a Look-1 opener. She is a depth pick for the hybrid-silhouette mid-walk, the looks where the construction does the speaking and the face holds the line. Reading her into the Acne resort Asia-region drop as secondary is also clean: the resort brief reads more Tokyo-domestic this cycle, and her domestic-Japanese readability is unambiguous. JW Anderson Tokyo capsule is a stretch for her — the genderless silhouette wants more dimension than she carries today; revisit in twelve months.
Brand-Route
- Primary: Sacai S/S 2027 pre-cast, hybrid-silhouette track, mid-walk depth pick. Aoyama showroom slot Monday or Tuesday next week.
- Secondary: Acne Studios resort 2027 Asia-region campaign, Tokyo-domestic readability sub-brief. Mid-tier-commercial corridor, twelve-month Asia-region image-rights.
- Tertiary watch: Hyke S/S 2027 menswear-adjacent womenswear capsule (the genderless-light section), revisit after the Sacai outcome lands.
- Editorial fit: Numero Tokyo new-faces page, Spur design-meets-fashion feature, possibly the smaller Brutus design-issue side-feature. The Tama-Bijutsu biography reads well into design-context editorials specifically.
- Show fit: Sacai S/S 2027 mid-walk if pre-cast holds. Tokyo Fashion Week September window plausible for two to three small Tokyo houses (Hyke, Mame Kurogouchi as a long-shot — the silhouette match is there).
Suggested Next Step
- Saturday atelier session this weekend (May 23, 14:00–16:00). One-hour sit-down plus four-setup studio test: neutral wall, available-light by the atelier window, half-body in mid-blue jersey wrap (Sacai-reference proxy), and one hands-and-notebook detail. Three to five Subject-Lock setcard refs to be generated under
working/catalog/setcard-assets/TYO-2026-Q2-001/setcard/refs/directly in 2K PNG. - If Saturday holds, file Aoyama pre-cast slot request via Sacai casting-coordinator (Mariko-san at the Aoyama office) for Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
- STUDIO test-sheet to follow within seven days of consent — three setups (atelier window, Meguro-gawa promenade afternoon, neutral seamless), one phase per setup.
- Phase 2 if consent and Sacai bite: tighter editorial-context shoot for the Numero Tokyo new-faces page submission, July deadline.
