Story

Six-fifteen at the ShanghART Project Ferguson-Lane. The ShanghART Project space is the second gallery on the Ferguson-Lane block, smaller than the Don Gallery, with a current contemporary-installation by a Chengdu-based artist that uses found-textile-fragments suspended on copper-thread armatures. The piece was the reason I went in plus the reason Chen Xiaoluo was there.

She was alone in the second-room of the installation, photographing the copper-thread-armature-detail-junction with her phone. Not snapshot-photographing, work-photographing — the angles plus the close-up-focus plus the composition-framing were the photographic-research of someone studying the textile-armature-craft for her own work.

I recognized the Donghua-senior-final-show 2026-05-09 from the Donghua-senior-classmate-shoot-network. Her piece had been a found-Yiwu-merchant-fabric-fragment-collage-jacket plus muslin-toile-skirt that had used a Wenzhou-grandparents-textile-archive of saved family-fabric-fragments from the 1960s-1980s Wenzhou-textile-trade-period. The senior-show piece had been the strongest Wenzhou-grandparents-textile-archive-work in the Donghua-senior-final-show.

I waited until she finished the angle she was working on, then walked over. „You walked the Yiwu-Wenzhou-grandparents-fabric-archive-jacket at Donghua May ninth. The piece picked up two editorial-submission-requests. What is the post-graduation track."

She had not decided. Two editorial-submission-requests pending (Numero-China-quirky-personal-section junior-editor plus a smaller Chinese-design-magazine). No agency-contract approaches.
